The Wind and the Laundry
someone gave the stars a bath
Someone sang a song
someone let the laundry go
scattered on the lawn
And the Moon, he cried to somebody
about how time can make you old
as he watched a bitter aging woman
take a sheet and make a fold
She was young, when she was in love with him
She had stars within her eyes
And he covered her with foolish dreams
Each night they lit the skies
But he simply could not hold her
And she nodded and replied
If I could not have those dreams back then
I surely would have died
She stood holding all the laundry
And she stared up and caught his eyes
You know, you're still in love with me
It was not a real goodbye
And she opened up her kitchen door
and she slid the basket through
and she wept once more before she went inside
To be held by someone who,
had arms and legs and flesh and bones
who had slept right by her side
and carried all their children on his shoulders
Deep with pride
And she loves this man, God knows she does
But it's written in the wind
How the Man in the Moon once held her heart...
And she brought her laundry in
Someone sang a song
someone let the laundry go
scattered on the lawn
And the Moon, he cried to somebody
about how time can make you old
as he watched a bitter aging woman
take a sheet and make a fold
She was young, when she was in love with him
She had stars within her eyes
And he covered her with foolish dreams
Each night they lit the skies
But he simply could not hold her
And she nodded and replied
If I could not have those dreams back then
I surely would have died
She stood holding all the laundry
And she stared up and caught his eyes
You know, you're still in love with me
It was not a real goodbye
And she opened up her kitchen door
and she slid the basket through
and she wept once more before she went inside
To be held by someone who,
had arms and legs and flesh and bones
who had slept right by her side
and carried all their children on his shoulders
Deep with pride
And she loves this man, God knows she does
But it's written in the wind
How the Man in the Moon once held her heart...
And she brought her laundry in
It all began with a Raspberry Starfish...
