Canvas Sail
The Ocean chimes
A hundred times
And its frothy wings
Come beckoning
Tell me,
How do you sail
How do you fade away
Before those strong arms take you back
To a sturdy door frame
Children laughing upstairs
Sitting in the third floor alcove
Listing to the rain
Your childhood was made of canvas
sneakers
On a barren road along the lake
black berry thorns
Torn pair of faded jeans
and a superficial gash
From a turn you didn't notice
Sweet angel
How do you fly
like fire flies
Your children dancing
In the back yard
As the moon sighs,
Bends to whisper your name
The Ocean chimes
One more time
And a finger reaches out
Licks your swollen ankels
You're giving birth again
And you tilt your head
and tell him,
You only sail
Down the drain
And he tells you, No...
This isn't life
It's just a canvas ride
and you've got the most beautiful
pair of Ocean eyes,
Canvas Sail...
A hundred times
And its frothy wings
Come beckoning
Tell me,
How do you sail
How do you fade away
Before those strong arms take you back
To a sturdy door frame
Children laughing upstairs
Sitting in the third floor alcove
Listing to the rain
Your childhood was made of canvas

Torn pair of faded jeans

and tell him,
You only sail
Down the drain
And he tells you, No...
This isn't life
It's just a canvas ride
and you've got the most beautiful
pair of Ocean eyes,
Canvas Sail...
It all began with a Raspberry Starfish...
