You Would Have Thought

You would have thought
The story would have complimented
That the Lovers
Had their way
In the evening fold
Of Happy endings
But there was too much
In the way
And so they fold their arms
And turn their heads
To where the skyline hides the Sun
You would have thought
You saw babies in their eyes
And deep memories
For the Summer Suns
That had yet to rise
Life has turned a page
That no one wrote
But they somehow intertwine
And Love has lost two pairs of eyes
As they turn their heads
And catch the broken lines
Of sidewalks
Left behind
You would have thought
He saved the Girl
That the mirror broke
That the Moon fell from the sky
To hold her for the first time
But it was reason over rhyme
You would have thought
The story would have complimented
That the Lovers
Had their way
But you know
How life... goes
On
And you would think
For all the years your eyelids
Could have saved
Ten thousand tears
But they spill
Anyway
You would have thought
He saved the Girl
Instead
He walked away
Someone tell the Moon
That the night is cold
That the Summer's lost its way
And the babies don the stars
And fade away
You would have thought
You knew
But you never do...
It all began with a Raspberry Starfish...
