Clapping Erasers

What is your job, they asked...
Oh, I erase lines all day, she replied.

Lines?
Telephone lines?
Fishing lines?
Lines in a play?
Clothing lines?
Grocery store lines?
Lines on the sidewalk?
The line across the horizon?

Oh, no... she replied,
Invisible lines that people draw...

(And then she crossed over to their side,
With such grace
They didn't even notice
That her erasers needed clapping again)
